Great ball of fire...

The worst place to be when the sun is out is on-call. This is precisely where I was on Saturday when the clouds and precipitation had decided that Portland wasn't a great place to vacation in the winter after all and skittered off further inland to find more interesting things on which to rain.

This lack of sunscreen in the sky gave way to a spectacular sunrise.

The colors aren't as varied and saturated as they are in Southern California, but the magnificent silhouette of Mt. Hood more than made up for that.

Some of these photos were actually taken on Monday, February 4, but I decided to throw them in here.

These photos were all taken from the 9th floor of the Portland VA hospital. There was a thick sheet of glass in between my camera lens and the scenery in these shots. One of these days, I'm going to find a way onto the roof and hopefully take some better pictures.
