- Monday, April 1, 2002 - NOT in hospital, NOT on page...
Hmmm, not really. The first thing I noticed when I stepped off the plane in Kailua-Kona was how much it looked like the Pacific Northwest. The sky was dark and gray when I boarded a Honolulu-bound DC-10 at SEATAC. The sky was dark and gray when I disembarked from a Boeing 717 on the big island of Hawaii. I was puzzled. Sure, there were coconut trees and people were wearing flowered shirts, but was this really the island paradise I was headed for? Eric picked me up from the airport in his fancy Mustang convertible (rented) and we cruised around the island like only a billionaire software engineer and a brain surgeon could. We met up with world-renowned photographer Jim Watt at his Hawaii residence and then proceeded to cavort around the island like a couple of kids from the mainland. For pics and stuff from March 31, check out Eric's Kona site, which he pretty much updates everyday (we have broadband here!). The following day (April Fool's Day), we jumped in a boat with Mike and Earl from The Aloha Dive Company and headed out to sea to do a couple of dives. Work has sucked a bit recently, and I can't even begin to tell you how nice it is to be not in the hospital and not on page. In fact, my pager is house-sitting for me right now. I'm sure it's glad to be on vacation as well.
